Mortality. One of life's great certainties. Yet the very subject is considered by some as distasteful and others a taboo never to be confronted.

It's no wonder therefore, that approximately just over half the adult population of the UK, have not made a Will outlining where their money, possessions and property should go when they die. You can't take it with you - so why not say who gets it!

After all, where there's no Will only lawyers and the government benefit. So irrespective of your age or the value of your estate, a will puts your affairs in order. To die intestate can produce untold problems.

What if I die without making a Will?
MARRIED COUPLES. Without a will, if you have children your spouse may only inherit half of your estate. If you have no children, your spouse may have to share your estate with his/her parents in law.
UNMARRIED COUPLES. Unless you have made your Will, your common law partner may get nothing at all from your estate even if you have children together and no matter how long you have lived together.
SEPARATED. If you do not make a Will, your ex-husband/wife will directly inherit part of your property and have continuing rights in part of the rest.
PARENTS. Without a Will a court will decide who should bring up your children. You should appoint guardians for all children under 18 years of age.
